Roster Changes: A Player Left My Team

What to do when a player leaves your team before or after roster lock, and how emergency substitutions work in VCT Americas Open Qualifiers.

If a player leaves your roster

  1. The team captain removes the player from any upcoming event lineups first. A player on an active lineup cannot leave the team.

  2. The player can then leave from the team's Team Information tab, or the captain can remove them.

  3. If registration for your next Open Qualifier is still open, the captain updates the event lineup with the replacement player. The new player must have a linked Riot account and pass the eligibility check.

After registration closes

Rosters lock when registration closes, 48 hours before Friday play. After lock, changes are allowed only under Riot's emergency substitution rules. Open a support conversation with your match or team details, and an admin will walk you through whether an emergency substitution applies. The substitute's identity and eligibility are re-verified before they can play.

During an Open Qualifier

Your lineup for the event is fixed once the bracket starts. A team must play with its registered lineup; an ineligible or unregistered player in a match leads to a forfeit of that series.
